This coming April marks our 4th summer offering Colorado Paddle Boards. The company is owned by Nico and Laurel Foster who currently live in Silverton, CO with their two kiddos. In true Foster fashion, here is a bit about how they started:

“Ever look around at your life and wonder just how things got to be the way they are? Sometimes we catch ourselves thinking that at Colorado Paddle Boards. We didn’t intend to be providing paddle boards for the people when we set out to build our first board. We just wanted a board for our family and thought it would be cool to paint the Colorado Flag on it. A lot of encouragement from our Durango community got us into business and the rest, as they say, is history.”

The Colorado Paddle Boards come in a variety of three sizes and three different color options so you can get exactly what you are looking for. Each purchase comes with everything you need to get onto the water that same day: board, paddle, pump, fin, repair kit and backpack style carrying bag. The Classic and the Scout offer all this for the smoking deal price of just $799.  For the quality, style and good feelings you get from shopping local, Colorado Paddle Board is an easy choice for your summer adventures!

Check out their website for details on each board.

When spending one night (or many) in the backcountry, a warm dinner at night and hot beverage in the morning can make the difference. That invariably involves using a stove of some sort–but which one?

Stove technology has been around for decades, but new tech is making them lighter, more efficient, and more dependable than ever before. Here’s a rundown of the different kinds of backpacking stoves:

Bear Canisters: Styles, Sizes, Considerations, and Use Tips

If you are camping in bear country, or in any place where food storage is a concern, you should strongly consider using a bear canister–a storage system that is built to keep bears out of your food. And in some places, particularly parks in California, Montana, Colorado, and Washington, backcountry campers are required to have and use bear canisters.

While you may get lucky by hanging your food in a sack from a tree, this is not permitted in many areas and virtually impractical in many alpine anddesert backpacking zones. Bear canisters are the preferred method for storing food and other smelly items, but there are many kinds to be aware of. Let’s look at them in more detail.
