Ya know that feeling? The adrenaline, the excitement of falling in love with a new activity and knowing you need more! We value new experiences that our beautiful outdoors has to offer. We hope our shop inspires adventures from boating on the Animas River to cross-country skiing the San Juans. Come find gear for your next adventure at Durango Outdoor Exchange!
Durango Outdoor Exchange provides the opportunity for our community to give gear a second life. Shopping and selling locally supports your friends and neighbors. We’re grateful to be able to provide this opportunity to our community and look forward to meeting new friends, hearing stories and supporting all of you in your next outdoor adventures.
We also love the opportunity to support those who contribute to the health and vitality of our community. In 2017 we started Give Back Days to provide an opportunity to learn about the exceptional non profit organizations in our community and do our part to give back, donating 10% of proceeds of sales from their sponsored day. Presently, we are excited to be able to support organizations through substantial sponsorships and a variety of partnerships models such as those with La Plata Open Space Conservancy and San Juan Mountains Association.
We recognize the incredible beauty of the land in which we live, work and play. Durango Outdoor Exchange prides itself in being a steward of the environment and we want to do all we can to reduce, reuse and recycle in the name of preservation. Buying and selling used items reduces the impact on the environment by keeping unwanted items in-use and out of landfills. Local commerce reduces carbon emissions by limiting extra transportation. By shopping and selling with us, you’re doing your part too.
Durango Outdoor Exchange strives to be a gear store for everyone. We hope you feel a sense of community and place the minute you walk through the door. Whether you are brand new to a sport and looking for guidance or just in for your weekly check on sweet used gear finds, we are so happy you’re here. We are thankful for each and every customer and consignor and feel lucky we get to continue growing in our dream jobs. And now, for the introductions…
We are Jen and Chase LaCroix, Owners of the Durango Outdoor Exchange. We are grateful for all that Durango and the surrounding areas have to offer and spend as much time as possible enjoying the variety of outdoor activities we've come to love as a family.
I like Pina Coladas and long hikes on mountain sides. Just being outside going places i have yet to be makes me happy. But skiing makes me the happiest.
The outdoors for me is a place to be silly and free. Let’s wear tu-tus and go skiing because why not! I can mostly be found in the mountains on skis or bike being closely followed by a big lovable chocolate lab.
The outdoors is a big part of who I am. Adventuring is in my blood and I love all the gear that makes it possible. You'll find me doing anything outside but most likely climbing a cliff or in the mountains.
I love to ski, mountain bike and eat cinnamon rolls in all my campsites. I’m well known for biting through my tongue in a ski accident and my love of dogs.
I love long days outside doing things like running, climbing, backpacking, and snowboarding. The longer the day the better! If lost, I typically respond to “I’m going on a run later if anyone wants to come” and “Let’s go climbing this weekend!”
Kara's been playing in the outdoors her whole life and working in the industry for about half of that life. She joins DOE with enthusiasm to get to know her Durango outdoor community better while helping manage inventory at the shop. You'll find her on nearly any river or singletrack in the summer and sussing out ski lines in the backcountry all winter, and everywhere there's a great yoga spot outside in fall and winter.
Born and raised in the corn country of Olathe Colorado but now a well versed mountain pup. A true lover of snow and dirt. Doug prefers big flowy lines with steep berms and endless single track. He brings the same amount of stoke in the mountains as he does in the shop.
The outdoors has been a special place ever since I was a youngin’. I’ve always been a big fan of tall trees and cool rocks. Hiking up mountains is one of my favorite things to do but only if summit beers are involved!
