Durango Outdoor Exchange provides the opportunity for our community to give gear a second life. Shopping and selling locally supports your friends and neighbors. We’re grateful to be able to provide this opportunity to our community and look forward to meeting new friends, hearing stories and supporting all of you in your next outdoor adventures.
We also love the opportunity to support those who contribute to the health and vitality of our community. In 2017 we started Give Back Days to provide an opportunity to learn about the exceptional non profit organizations in our community and do our part to give back, donating 10% of proceeds of sales from their sponsored day. Presently, we are excited to be able to support organizations through substantial sponsorships and a variety of partnerships models such as those with La Plata Open Space Conservancy and San Juan Mountains Association.
We recognize the incredible beauty of the land in which we live, work and play. Durango Outdoor Exchange prides itself in being a steward of the environment and we want to do all we can to reduce, reuse and recycle in the name of preservation. Buying and selling used items reduces the impact on the environment by keeping unwanted items in-use and out of landfills. Local commerce reduces carbon emissions by limiting extra transportation. By shopping and selling with us, you’re doing your part too.
Some would say Durango Outdoor Exchange is already a sustainable business because we sell used outdoor gear, but we wanted to do even better, so we dug deeper into our values and made some key decisions which included installing solar panels the first year in our new location, adding an electric car charger in 2022 and have recently been awarded a Platinum Level Green Business certification by the Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency.
Durango Outdoor Exchange strives to be a gear store for everyone. We hope you feel a sense of community and place the minute you walk through the door. Whether you are brand new to a sport and looking for guidance or just in for your weekly check on sweet used gear finds, we are so happy you’re here. We are Jen and Chase LaCroix, Owners of the Durango Outdoor Exchange. We are grateful for all that Durango and the surrounding areas have to offer and spend as much time as possible enjoying the variety of outdoor activities we've come to love as a family.

The outdoors has been a special place ever since I was a youngin’. I’ve always been a big fan of tall trees and cool rocks. Hiking up mountains is one of my favorite things to do but only if summit beers are involved!
Sarah
My earliest memory is sneaking out of my parents’ tent in Canyonlands to howl on a rock. Honestly not much has changed. I feel the most at home in nature with my pup, skiing, mountaineering, biking or kayaking.
ShaneI’ve called many places home as I’ve grown, from California to the PNW to Hawaii to my Toyota truckbed. But since Durango called my name 10 years ago, it’s been the best home I could ask for. You can find me backpacking deep in the mountains, romping through red rock canyons with my pup Osha, soaking in hot springs, or sharing meals and stories around a campfire after a long day of adventure and nature connection
Emanuel
From the rock to the Rockies. Grew up on an island, now living at altitude chasing pow. Hiking to high alpine lakes or hot springs keeps me grounded. Scoring fresh pow or chasing waves on the coast gets me psyched!
Ellery
I grew up running around the Oregon woods barefoot with my goats, and have always felt the most at home outside. I love hiking in the mountains, swimming in lakes, and pretty much anything involving snow. My dog Ramona is the best adventure buddy I could ask for, and I’m excited to explore Colorado with her!
Matthew
Whether I’m climbing under the desert sun or hiking pre-dawn in the mountains, moving my body thru wild places is core to who I am. I fell in love with the outdoors while studying forestry in Southern Illinois, and the four corners has been base camp for the last 5 years. My weekend warrior-ing most often leads me to the local crags or romping around with my dog, Korra. Will happily talk gear or be a belay buddy anytime!
