It happens to all of us–we accumulate a few too many pairs of skis, a bike saddle we took off an old steed but never found another use for, pants we **might**have, um, outgrown, and shoes we loved but just never fit right.

It’s nice to accumulate old gear in closets and sheds, but it’s nicer to sell it. Much nicer.

Selling your used gear to Durango Outdoor Exchange is a great way to pass on the good vibes and build store credit that you can use for upgrading your quiver(s). Best of all, consigning your used outdoor gear is a quick and painless process. Read on to learn how.

What is the Durango Outdoor Exchange?

The Durango Outdoor Exchange is a family-owned business in Durango that sells used and new outdoor gear, including skis, bikes, clothing, books, shoes, gloves, paddleboards, tents, sleeping bags, and much more.

Durango Outdoor Exchange operates on a consignment model, meaning you will receive a percentage of the sale price once your gear sells. This model not only benefits you as a consigner but also ensures that shoppers can find quality second-hand and new outdoor equipment at reasonable prices.

How to Consign Your Used Gear

  1. Get your gear prepped: Before heading to the store, make sure what you want to sell is in good condition. Clean your gear–clean gear makes your stuff more attractive and increases the likelihood it will be accepted on consignment. If you see any damage, try and repair it.

  2. Know what to bring: Durango Outdoor Exchange accepts gear seasonally, and generally takes on items a month or two before the season starts–don’t bring in a bike in January or skis in June. Not sure what season it is? Check out our newsletter or stop by or call.

  3. Visit the store: You don’t need an appointment to consign your items, but be aware that on certain days (usually when there’s a big sale) the intake desk is closed, and the consign desk also closes before the store closes.

  4. Our staff make the final call on what we can take, so there’s a chance we’ll ask you to come back later or in a different season.

  5. Be open about what sort of price you want. Our staff are pros at assessing items and putting just the right price on them–one that balances your profit but gives gear the best chance of being sold.

  6. If your items are accepted, you can check to see what sold and your balancehere.

Selling your used outdoor gear at Durango Outdoor Exchange is easy, and it’s a great way to fund your next adventure while your rear gets a second life and someone gets a great deal!

You know the drill: Melting snow, sloppy trails, and that in-between season that can make a mess of your boots, your bike, and your Subaru.

But this year? It’s a little different. A drier-than-usual winter and spring means mud season isn’t quite living up to its name this year, and that opens a new set of opportunities to get outside earlier than expected.

Here’s how to make the most of it with help fromDurango Outdoor Exchange.
